Re: Online storage suggestions?

I don't have any blank DVDs either so that's not an option. I'm at my cabin with no access to any stores either so going and buying a drive or anything for that matter is not an option.

Online storage suggestions?

I need to wipe my macbook and reinstall fresh. But I have a few hundred gigs of junk that I'd like to store online before I do. I don't need long term storage. I just need to store it long enough to wipe and reinstall OS X on my macbook. I can't use iCloud because my OS X version is too old. I'm jus...

Ideas on how to implement getProperty()

I am writing a library that has components and component properties. The VAST majority of the time, properties can only be specified once on a component. But certain property types can be specified multiple times. Because of this, getProperty() has a bit of an annoying and inconvenient requirement i...

Re: Need advice on which design pattern to use

Yeah I had considered Strategy briefly but it didn't seem to quite fit. I'll take a look again and see what I think. Thanks, man :)

Re: Struggling with Interpreter Pattern

Oh... I thought it was the other way around. I need to rename my classes then because I have my lexer converting the text into tokens and the parser making sense of them.

Need advice on which design pattern to use

I have a series of classes that make up a composite structure. I'm going to simplify the interface just to make it easier to understand. Let's say I have components and properties. Components can have sub-components and properties. Sometimes certain components require certain sub-components. Sometim...

Re: Struggling with Interpreter Pattern

I think that the interpreter pattern is more than I need then. I'm simply needing a parser. The file I am trying to parse is not complicated enough to require the interpreter pattern. It doesn't have variables or operators or anything like that. It just has a grammar of sorts.

Re: Namespace naming/directory conventions

Good point, Weirdan. I went with this:

Code: Select all

/lib
    /MyLibrary
        /Reader
            StringReader.php
            FileReader.php
        Reader.php (abstract)
        OtherClass.php
        Foo.php

Struggling with Interpreter Pattern

I have been reading the gang of four book as well as PHP: Objects, Patterns, and Practice. Both of them have chapters devoted to the Interpreter Pattern. The PHP book even has an appendix with a sample parser with an impressive amount of example code to help understand how and why the interpreter pa...

Namespace naming/directory conventions

Back before there were namespaces in PHP, when I wanted an abstract class and then many concrete classes based on that abstract class, I would do something like this: /lib /Reader Abstract.php File.php DirectInput.php Url.php Now I am using namespaces and I can do away with MyLibrary_Reader_Abstract...

Re: PHP 5.3 and beyond, book suggestions

Excellent! Thanks for the suggestions, guys. These ideas should definitely get me on the right track! :) I'm going to try to stick around for a while. I am a little surprised I am still a Mod here. It's been so long since I even signed in that I'm surprised I haven't been fired. But... since I'm sti...

Re: PHP 5.3 and beyond, book suggestions

What would be really great is to see examples of how namespaces are being used since they were added. How autoloading works with them, best practices, as well as cool stuff that's being done with anonymous functions and all that jive. I really just want to see how people are using the new features.

PHP 5.3 and beyond, book suggestions

Hello old friends! It's been a long time. I really need to start hanging around here again. But anyway, to get to the point, I've taken quite an extensive vacation from PHP and I'm looking to dive back into it. Last I worked with PHP at any kind of professional level would have been mid-2010. I have...

Re: Learning C and Objective C... advice?

Weirdan, I spent probably 3 or 4 hours last night reading about assembly programming concepts. I had downloaded this book on programming C and it mentioned assembly a few times, which got me curious. So I started reading about assembly and before I knew it, hours had passed. But it was interesting s...

Learning C and Objective C... advice?

Hey y'all! Long time no post! I've decided to venture into the wonderful world of C and eventually Objective C. I bought a book on Objective C which gives kind of a crash course in C, but I would actually much prefer to build my objective c knowledge on a solid foundation of C. So, can anybody sugge...
